SYMPOSIUM Cardiac Arrhythmias (Part 1) Anatomy of the Conduction System

چکیده
are explained on the basis of anatomic lesions in specific sites of the conduction system or its blood supply. Second-degree A-V block of Mobitz type II, which may be a precursor of complete (third-degree) heart block, commonly is associated with fibrotic lesions of uncertain etiology in the branching part of the bundle of His or the bundle branches. Ischemic lesions are found less often, and other pathologic processes rarely are present. Chronic complete heart block most often results from nonspecific, fibrotic interruption of the distal bundle of His, or of the first parts of the bundle branches after their origins. Ischemic lesions are uncommonly the cause of chronic block. High-grade A-V block complicating acute myocardial infarction may be associated with infarction of the A-V conduction system, but often morphologic evidence of ischemia cannot be identified. Congenital variants in anatomy of the conduction system are responsible for some relatively uncommon arrhythmias.

متن کاملSPOTLIGHT REVIEW Establishment of the mouse ventricular conduction system
The ventricular conduction system represents the electrical wiring responsible for the co-ordination of cardiac contraction. Defects in the circuit produce a delay or conduction block and induce cardiac arrhythmias. Understanding how this circuit forms and identification of the factors important for its development thus provide insights into the origin of cardiac arrhythmias. Recent advances, u...
متن کاملCardiac Arrhythmias In Congenital Heart Diseases
Arrhythmias figure prominently among the complications encountered in the varied and diverse population of patients with congenital heart disease, and are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality. The incidence generally increases as the patient ages, with multifactorial predisposing features that may include congenitally malformed or displaced conduction systems, altered hemodynamics, mech...
متن کامل[Anatomy of cardiac nodes and atrioventricular specialized conduction system].
Concomitant with the development of catheter ablation techniques for the treatment of atrial arrhythmias, there has been renewed interest in the morphologic arrangement of the cardiac conduction system. The first descriptions of the anatomy of the nodes and atrioventricular conduction system appeared nearly 100 years ago. Since then the subject has been controversial, possibly because of the ea...
متن کاملMorphology of inter-atrial conduction routes in patients with atrial fibrillation.
BACKGROUND Inter-atrial conduction disturbance is associated with the presence of atrial fibrillation (AF), although little is known about the anatomy of the inter-atrial connections. METHODS AND RESULTS Twenty-seven hearts from in-hospital deaths were examined and stratified in two groups with regard to their history of AF. Measurements of atrial weight were performed after excising the atri...
